Backing It Up a Bit

Incident 284 Research Notes - 001: A. Fairchilde: Are you sure this is relevant? This seems a little too far back. The incident only began the day before we engaged. M. Winsaia: I'm following the record's recommendations. You know the entity sat dormant for a long time, so settle in. M. Winsaia: You wanted context, so pay attention and don't skip ahead, Aaron. A. Fairchilde: ... thanks. :P A. Fairchilde: Nerd. Artist's Notes: So much to do, so little time. If you do any of that twitter/instagram/tumblr thing, keep an eye out. I'm apparently a masochist and want to toss some "Inktober" offerings up there. There's this supernifty My Hero Academia piece I dropped up there yesterday that I'm stupid proud of.

Cool we get to see backstory of the families. Ryan ya awesome and the comic is the high point of my free time.

I’m straight up giddy to get to share this stuff. I’ve actually had sketches for this and the next page for YEARS. Takes a lot of touching up to make them closer to current standards, but I’m glad you’re enjoying the ride.
Hearing that you (and the others) are is the highlight of my week xD

  2. So Jackie dyes her hair? She is pretty adorable with the blue hair. And, now we know where Sarah gets it from.

That she does! Professional reasons. Jackie is super attractive with the blue… but I am a sucker for blue hair.

  3. Is blue hair a naturally-occurring color in this universe? And, if so, why would Jackie have to dye it?

Just curious, I’m used to universes where naturally-occurring hair colors are different than our own, such as EGS (where Tedd and his Dad have naturally-occurring purple hair but Nanase dyes hers red)

No problem! There’s legit canon reasoning for it.
On the Earth Sarah was born on, unnatural (for us) haircolors are a norm. The only character whose hair is somewhat unusual is the ridiculous red that Rei sports.
Jane continually cycles dying her hair, which is naturally a dark brown, for sheer self expression. Jackie ends up going blond because she’s working her way up in local government. Blue hair is part of the “boring nerd” stereotype in their society. Blond is seen as a more assertive and professional color on women.
Obviously, all of these stereotypes are utter bullshit, but she’s working with what she’s given.

      1. Well, that’s true on our planet too.

  4. Just curious, when you condense this down to pages for the book, how will you handle the running commentary below the comic?

It turns out that the aspect ratio I’d selected for Mastery gives some spare space at the bottom of each page in the print format I’m planning on rolling with. It will be included. I’m also considering adding the author’s comments, but that’ll be soooo much more work. Still probably gonna happen.
