Like No Time Passed at All

She'll be feeling that one in the morning. ----------- Cool news. Got the proof of the re-run on the comic and they've got them printing now. Time to get that shop set up! The page flows a little weird and I miss having the time to get the hair highlights in, but I'll get back in shape soon enough.

  1. Now *there’s* a Calvin and Hobbes moment.

I notice that normal wear for these two is shorts and tank tops or light shirts. Where does this part of the comic take place?

Would you believe I actually looked up shots of Hobbes pouncing Calvin to figure out that gesture?
I hadn’t remembered how often Calvin ended up upside down during those attacks. The older I get, the more I appreciate just how incredible Watterson’s art is.

They’ve definitely got favored colors and styles as far as wardrobe goes. Ash has a bit more variety since Sarah’s clothing selections are… a bit more focused. That’s a page or three away though. We’ve caught up to the girls being 14 as of this page. The actual arc of Conflict of Interests kicks in fully while they’re 16. Almost there!

The girls are right before graduating High School in Act 1. Conflict of Interests takes place before the crisis starts.

      1. Sorry, I was asking “Where”. I figure it’s not Pennsylvania because you’d have them in poofy coats at least PART of the year.

I’ve actually based it in southwestern PA, since that’s what’s familiar to me. That’s where they set roots after that initial move when the kids came into the picture.

A lot of the story has been taking place near or during the summer months, so there hasn’t been much use for the winter wardrobe. They’re approaching the end of their senior year at the “present” part of the story, so fairly deep into spring.

Ari shakes me a lot because of the lack of variety in their wardrobe, but I keep having to remind her that even though we’re like… almost 60 pages in, it’s still just the third day. Not many chances to show a wider variety of clothes, which in Ash’s case is a real shame.

I read so many comics where the wardrobe doesn’t change much; I always find that somewhat jarring.

One of the comics I read (How to be a Werewolf, http://howtobeawerewolf.com) just had a “fashion contest” where readers proposed different outfits that were incorporated in a “shopping montage”– and now the characters are actually *wearing* those clothes in the strip. I thought that was really cool.

I had forgotten that comic strip time runs pretty slowly in this comic, so I’m not surprised at the clothing– I was mainly curious what the environment the strip took place in.

  2. Reminds me of a Calvin & Hobbes style “welcome home” tackle.

Ash just gets more and more hair. Ryan keep up the good work and I still want one of those rough copies. Rough or not I enjoy ya work and want to support it as I’m able.

Ash’s hair is so much fun to draw. Rei’s hair wishes it was like Ash’s.
We’ve still got them! I have no idea what we’d charge for them since like… we consider them unsellable. I’d recommend when you do the ordering thing on the store, just sling a message and we’ll figure it out there.

  4. Love Ash’s braces with green rubber bands!
